Outreach & Justice
We are called to help those in need, whether in our neighborhood or across the globe.
We learn about and engage in acts of service and justice and strive toward God's vision of Shalom - peace with justice.
We, the members of Union Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, in Elk River, believe that every person is created by God, loved by God and invested by God with dignity and worth. Therefore, by vote of the congregation, we declare and commit ourselves to be an Open and Affirming church in the United Chutch of Christ, welcoming gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender individuals to worship and enter into the full life and ministry of our church. As our church moves forward in mission, we commit to making justice and inclusivity a reality. We continue to invite and joyfully welcome into our community all people of every age, race, nationality, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, economic and social status, ability, faith background and family structure. No matter who you are or where you are on life's journey, you are welcome at Union Congregational Church, United Church of Christ.
Open & Affirming
Earthwise Congregation
Our congregation has made a commitment to be Earthwise, an official recognition by the United Church of Christ. We have agreed to a plan of action including making energy efficiency a priority in the physical building, maximizing recycling, conducting energy audits, and identifying steps the congregation can take in protecting the environment at home. Through the State Clean Water Act grant, the Sherburne County Soil and Water Conservation District oversaw the design and installation of two critcally placed rain gardens on the church property. These gardens serve as filtration and purification systems for rain water run-off. The church also received a rain barrel which catches rainwater form our roof and allows us to water plants and flowers indoors and near the front door.
Through volunteer activities and fundraisers we actively support the work of local organizations such as:
-
CAER (local food shelf)
-
Meals on Wheels
-
Second Harvest Food Bank
-
Gifts Anonymous/Santa Anonymous
-
Open Doors for Homeless Youth
